EVIL DIVA : ISSUE 4 EPILOGUE )

UPDATE NOTES: ... My favorite part of this strip? The implication that those cupcakes were in the trash because Virgil experienced a little sparkling first-hand. >:D

Today's incentive is an epilogue to the epilogue!
I have a weird issue with creating PNGs with transparencies.

I'm using Photoshop 5.0 to create an alpha channel where my image has a round border that's transparent. The image is an 8-bit RGB file, no weird extra data in it or anything. Now, when I save the image the transparency works fine. That's not a problem. However the problem I have is that the file comes out darker then the original.

I'm stumped.

If I lighten the image before saving then the result sort of comes out close to the correct brightness, but I think I'm doing something wrong to have the dark issue to begin with. Any ideas?
got tagged by [info]eyepatchmcgee so here goes.

Who sleeps in bed next to you?
nobody, but sometimes one or more cats when i sleep over at my parents' house.

What did you last eat?
homemade oatmeal raisin cookie.

What kind of books do you read?
either comics i usually end up hating (with some awesome exceptions of course!) or YA novels for girls.

If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be?
living in a new 100%-paid-for farm house.

What's really creepy?
the mutant babies from It's Alive. or frogs.

Name one odd item within five feet of you.
a life-size puppet of the It's Alive mutant baby.

What's your current fandom / obsession / addiction?
Rocky and/or Alien 3.

What did you really want to do today that you didn't?
i'll do a reverse one, what i DIDN'T want to do today but i did: call bluecross about missing health insurance renewal form even though i don't give a shit but i'm doing it because my mom will never rest unless i do.

What are you most excited for?
being done with Shadoweyes thumbnails.

What are you least excited for?
a day job.

What websites do you always visit when you go online?
deviantart, the Beat, When Fangirls Attack, wikipedia, johnnywander.com, livejournal, roaringshark.com, audioshocker.com, chud.com

What was the last thing you bought?
couple heads of cauliflower. the last non-groceries thing were Batwoman/Detective Comics #858, Beast by Marian Churchland, and Age Of Reptiles #1 by Ricardo Delgado.

If you could have any pet, what would it be?
my first thought was a talking cat, a cat that could speak english and communicate with me, but then i thought more about it and i think part of cats' (and all animals') appeal is that they aren't human and CAN'T communicate with you except in non-human feline ways. i don't really like when people over-anthropomorphize animals and i feel kind of ashamed now.

What do you want right this minute, off the top of your head?
a paying comics gig.

Where is the place you like to return to in order to calm down / relax / etc.?
parents' house.

How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?
I DON'T EAT THAT CRAP.

Who is your fictional crush?
Tifa Lockhart!!!

Are there any bits of childhood that you miss?
definitely. i get to do almost whatever i want in adulthood, and not having to do gym class (particularly swimming) is high on my list of adulthood pleasures, but i still miss the zero responsibility and seeing friends in school and having sleepovers and gaming and stuff. things like that tend to transform or fadeaway as i get older.

I'm gonna be at dwex this weekend!! WILL YOU BE THERE??
Nekocon went a lot better than I thought it would! I was so pleased. I was really expecting it to be slow and boring, but people were nice, sales were decent and to top it all off I found some great buys! I really had a good time and I'm actually looking forward to next year. Here's a picture (compliments of Kelly) of me and Algy in the outfits we put together this time:

She was going for pirate and I was going for thief. We got a lot of steampunk attention though, haha. I'm not done with mine yet... I need more accessories. Oh and look! You can see my dollies Lenora and Moira in the corners. I need to get the pictures of our whole tables from Algy's camera.

And here's my favorite score of the weekend:

A fleece strawberry bed set! SQUEAL! It's going to be so warm and soft on my bed ;O; I've been wanting a new bed set and it was serendipity that I found one there.

And speaking of new room stuff, I sort of went on a spending spree yesterday. I've been wanting a bigger TV for a while now so I decided to make a 40" flat panel my Christmas gift to myself. Algy's family took me to the Navy Exchange store they're privy to in order to find a good deal, but they didn't have any Sony Bravias... but while we were on our way out I passed by this 26" LG flat panel computer monitor that I just stopped and gaped at. After about twenty minutes of browsing and thinking I finally ended up buying it, haha. I can't believe how freaking HUGE it is! I'm still adjusting to it, but I know it's going to make doing art sooooo much more comfortable.

And I did end up getting the TV eventually, we just had to go to Best Buy where Algy's dad works later that night. I got one of the last two they had in stock and saved about $50 thanks to her dad's discount. I also got a proper TV stand! I saw one I really liked while we were waiting for them to find the TV, but it was $230 and I wasn't going to pay that...but her dad's discount knocked it down to $87! Can you believe that? So awesome! Algy and her bro are going to help me set it all up when they take me home next week.

But my spending is so totally done for the next several months at least >__>;;

Remember, Montreal! I'm going to be at Expozine this weekend! You should come.

I realized today that the comic I was working on was going to take longer than I thought, so I made these up real quick before I take off for Montreal! You go to one of these things, and it's four days gone like a flash. Not that anyone checks the internet on the weekend, but still. In any case, I like the Kiss elves.

Store!

GUESS WHO FINALLY GOT THEIR CAR BACK IN GREAT CONDITION! :D
That's right, me!! I have my car again and I must say it's a great feeling to have independant wheels again. Two weeks since I last drove... definitly felt odd. Well, I will miss having someone to talk to on my commutes to and from work, but this is for the best. My friends can now spend their gas on other things. :)

So to celebrate, let's steal some links and post thme, right? Right!

11.12.09 - VOICE
Last night was something of a cakewalk. Our heroes questioned one of the captured supervillains and got a lead on their hideout, The Celestial Inn. Once there, they defeated a few agents and two more supervillains, Szybko and Irredencia (Oddly, I have not been able to find a translation for this word.) The tunnel the Italian villain was guarding got blown, but mission leader Lung Hung could not resist taunting Doctor Atomic and luring the three heroes out into the cold waters of Lake Michigan. His minions, including Blue Eel, her cyborg sharks and more VOICE agents, proved no match for them, and only the Chinese villain and his doxy escaped.

Bryan balked at yet another session lost in time, so we are doing a fast fade and moving back to 2009 next session. With only about six sessions left before Wren's due date, will Doctor Atomic, Kessa and Deanna be able to uncover and stop the threat behind all this, or will they fail and doom the world?
So about a month ago, I got the idea to combine photos of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell at D*sneyland in Photoshop, since it seemed like a fun project. I pitched this idea to them and the agreed to help me out. I started out making a list of ideas and got to the park early one morning to meet with Peter. We took a ton of photos, and he even threw some ideas out to me.

About a week later I put all the photos on my phone, met up with Tinkerbell, and showed them to her so she could see how she was supposed to act out. Since it's MUCH harder to do a photoshoot with Tink when there's a constant line waiting for her, we didn't take a whole lotta photos onstage. But we ended up getting through them all and I spent most of October doing these for fun.

Finally talked with the boss today about my time. He told me that management is under heavy pressure to enforce a "No overtime policy". While he agreed not to cut any time off this week, I'm still at least 35+ minutes off of my paid time clock so I will now be talking to HR about the situation. I can understand if the company doesn't want to pay overtime, but I worked that time because we were understaffed and my department is one of the most important departments there are on campus.

Without us, enrollments don't happen. Thus business doesn't happen.

So the end result is I gotta be paid that time and if the boss man doesn't want overtime happening, then either he works out schedules to get additional coverage or bites the bullet and accept our department closing early if manpower is low. Working employees without paying them just isn't a legal option.

Meanwhile, I called the repair shop and they told me that my car Will be ready tomorrow for pickup. I'm VERY happy about this. :D I just have to work out the payment (I have the money, but not all in one account) and off I go back into the land of having a vehicle to drive around and... yeah, gonna miss rides with Nick. It's nice to have someone to talk to on those long drives home.

And radio kinda sucks around here. Same dang 4 songs on every station.

EVIL DIVA : ISSUE 4, PAGE 27 )

UPDATE NOTES: Brinson: There you have it. Issue four, in the can! Will Michelle tell the truth? Will Gabriel spill the beans on Diva's conversation with Mr. Virgil? And just how grounded are every last one of them? TUNE IN NEXT TIME -- no, wait, give us like a few weeks, then you can tune in for answers. ^^; Until then, it's a sketch comic party up in hurr. (Which, actually? Will provide at least one big answer to a question we've been hearing a lot this issue.)

Thank you again for all your comments and support, especially for voting us up to number three. (I still can't believe we're there; even my mom sent her congratulations today.) I feel like I've learned a lot this issue! And I hope you'll stick with me and Pete and Joe and HAI as we continue this journey. <3

Pete: Well, another issue comes to a close. We will be taking the next few weeks to write the new story and start the storyboards. Our online store will be up this week. Now you can tell the world you love Diva with your very own official hand-screened Evil Diva t-shirt. Also available will be posters, buttons and books.

In the meantime, there will be new sketch comics going up on the usual update days, as well as new incentives. I would like to thank all of you again for your support and encouragement. And if you thought things couldn't get weirder, you ain't seen nothing yet!

Stay evil.

... To get the full effect of this incentive, you really should say untz untz untz as you view it. XD
11.11.09 - Dry Matches

I got a comment about my last comic saying that it condoned smoking, but I don't, that is nonsense! You should also not lasso cats out of trees, if that doesn't go without saying. Historical smoking is another matter, go ahead and have a smoke in the trench, but I advise against lighting three cigarettes at night.

Remembrance Day always makes me ruminative about the place of history in our current consciences, because it is one of the few holidays where we are explicitly told listen you have to remember this thing that happened ok and, one, people pay attention, two, there is nothing jamming the line like bbq's or parties or football games or chocolate eggs or presents. History: You should give a shit, who knew.

Just so we are clear though, I don't really care about Queen Victoria's birthday either so go ahead and slam it back on May 24 weekend, fireworks and the whole bit. Honestly we should all get free corgis on Victoria Day.
